Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State on Tuesday re-imposed the lockdown relaxed on Katsina, Batagarawa and Daura Local Government areas. The councils are considered hardest hit by COVID-19 pandemic.
Masari, who was updating reporters on the status of the pandemic fight said the re-imposition became necessary considering the population density of the affected Local Governments and the severity of their cases.
He disclosed that the state recorded 337 positive cases, with 293 cases active, 18 deaths, while 51 patients have been discharged, and 43 patients are on admission.
He also emphasized the need for all hands to be on deck to educate the people on the use of face marks which is now compulsory and on how they could embrace other health guidelines relating to COVID-19 to reduce its spread before the introduction of vaccine.
He said: ‘’Our people need real education to adopt facemasks until preventive vaccine is introduced this is the only way to reduce the spread of the virus.”
The governor also revealed that a testing centre will be instituted in the state and that the state Government will soon sign Memorandum of Understanding with the Sahel Medical laboratory which would soon commence testing in the state.
According to him, the Sahel laboratory can tests 270 samples daily.
